- The height of Chimborazo (long accounted to be the loftiest mountain in the world) has been determined by Mr. Whymper to be 20,517 feet. The view is taken a little to the north of the town of Guaranda, at a height of 9,250 feet, and shows the side of the mountain on which the first ascent was made.
