- Description:
- These ice cliffs are also seen (at greater distances) in Views Nos. 1 and 3. They indicate the thickness of the glacier which caps the summits of Chimborazo, and upon this side of the mountain they are continually breaking away in huge slices. [This photograph (unique in being the highest hitherto taken in the world) proves that great glaciers exist on Chimborazo, and puts an end to the doubts expressed as to the existence of glaciers upon any of the Ecuadorian Andes except the Mountain Alter. - Printed in the first version of the catalogue]
