- Description:
- A photographic representation of the frustule of a diatom frequently fails to provide a satisfactory record of the appearances presented by the Microscope. This is due, in many cases, to the varying planes of the object which the lens fails to reproduce owning to lack of depth of focus.
The accompanying examples are shown to indicate that the stereoscopic process when applied to this branch of photomicrography affords ample evidence of the cause of failure in single prints, and illustrates satisfactorily the power that the stereo worker possesses.
The examples provided have been mostly obtained by reflected light, a form of illumination that, with few exceptions, secures better results than when the diatom is subjected to transmitted light.
