Description:
This bird is found in countless thousands on the giant cliffs of St. Kilda. It forms the chief food supply of the natives. The birds build their nests on the steepest cliffs, and owing to the exceedingly rough nature of these and the difficulty of traversing them, it is not an easy bird to photograph. The eight photographs show the egg and the adult female sitting by the nest; the female sitting and turning on the egg; the female and young in nest; the male in flight, and the young bird about six days old.
