- The black head of the male of this bird (Emberiza schœniclus) has often led to the name Black-headed Bunting being accorded to it, and this causes confusion, as the true Black-headed Bunting (Emberiza melanocephala) has been obtained in this country only on one solitary occasion.
The names by which it is generally known, however, are Reed Sparrow and Blackcap, the last of which is the name of quite a different species. - Exhibit type:
