Description:
A series of 12 prints illustrating the life history during the nesting period. The eggs are laid on the bare ground. The young, when first hatched, are covered with grey hairy down, which is succeeded in a few days by "quills," from which the shown in the photographs, and also the protection afforded to young at all ages, also to the adult by the wonderful assimilation of the plumage with the general environment.
