- The probable type of the old English Black Rat, and the "plague" Rat of the East. It is held that the Black Ratton is highly susceptible to "plague," and that the fleas peculiar to him (which have not hitherto been found on the new English Brown Rat) will, under dark and insanitary conditions, convey the plague infection to human beings.
