Description:
Photographs of Comet c 1908 (Morehouse) taken with the 30-inch reflector (focal length 11 feet 5 inches). Enlarged three diameters.
1908. Sept. 29, 13 h. 12 m., G.M.T. Exposure, 30 minutes
Oct. 3, 7 h. 3 m., G.M.T. Exposure, 30 minutes.
Oct. 15, 7 h. 3 m., G.M.T. Exposure, 10 minutes.
Oct. 15, 9 h. 24 m., G.M.T. Exposure, 10 minutes
Combined transparency, showing motion of comet amongst stars and motion of matter forming tail, relatively to the nucleus, during interval between the two exposures.
Oct. 23, 7 h. 28 m., G.M.T. Exposure 15 minutes.
Oct. 30, 6 h. 37 m., G.M.T. Exposure 15 minutes.
Nov. 19, 6 h. 4 m., G.M.T. Exposure 15 minutes.
The photographs were taken for the purpose of studying the rapid changes which took place in the tail of the comet. In many cases, photographs were obtained at frequent intervals extending over the greater part of the night; these afford a means of determining directly the velocities and accelerations of the particles of the tail.
