- Description:
- The photographs were taken in a large reducing camera furnished with a spectroscope slit, illuminated with a Nernst lamp. This slit was photographed from a distance of 14 feet by means of a small camera fitted with a spectroscopic objective and made of brass so as to maintain a constant focal plane. The slit was covered by a black wedge giving a variation of intensity from 1 to 60. The image of the slit was about ˝mm. long 1/40th mm. wide.
Owing to irradiation the image spreads out greatly at the end of greatest intensity, and this spread is seen to depend on the plate. It will be noted that coarser grain does not necessarily carry with it greater irradiation. - Exhibit type:
