- This is a myrmecophilous epiphyte belonging to the Natural Order Rubiaceś. The basal portion of the stem is swollen into a large water-storing tuber, the interior of which is excavated into numerous canals and galleries. The latter are invariably inhabited by colonies of ants, so that the tuberous stem constitutes a veritable living ants' nest. Jungle on Redang Islands, off E. Coast of Malay Peninsula (1899)
