- The Society is organising a Gallery of Photographic Portraits of Eminent British subjects, and ask the assistance of all who are interested in the matter to increase the collection by gift or loan.
The collection was initiated by Mr. Frederick Hollyer, who has contributed a number of photographs; and Mr. G. C. Whitfield has contributed a complete set of his “Men of Mark.” Promises of other contributions have been received.
It is most probable that valuable photographic portraits of eminent people are liable to be lost or destroyed unless they are indexed and stored under suitable conditions. The Society proposes to index and store all portraits entrusted to it under such conditions that they shall be available for reference. Copying will not be permitted except by the consent of the donor and owner of the copyright.
The Society will accept photographs of all eminent persons, but the portraits will not be placed in the gallery until the person portrayed has been deceased twelve months. - Exhibit type:
