1907 Fifty-second Annual Exhibition of the Royal Photographic Society of Great Britain
Exhibit title:
Musk Beetle (Aromia moschata)
Exhibitor:
Douglas English
Section:
Scientific and Technical Photography and its Application to Processes of Reproduction
Exhibit No.:
321
Description:
Nos. 318 and 319 are prints on gaslight paper developed with rodinal and subjected to local intensification with mercury and ammonia. A very fair approximation to natural colouring is thus obtained. In the case of No. 318, the Shrew-mouse, the approximation is remarkable. The skin of a typical Shrew-mouse is exhibited for comparison.
Nos. 320 and 321 are carbon transparencies backed. In No. 321, the Musk Beetle, advantage is taken of the fact that a strong solution of ammonium persulphate will discharge the green of most green tissues. Ammonium persulphate had been applied to the background, and the insect has been backed with metallic powders.
