- A series of 36 carbon prints, illustrating the splash caused by dropping a rough steel sphere from a height of 5 inches into milk.
The first 12 prints illustrate the formation and dissipation of the crater.
The second row illustrates the formation of the emergent jet.
The third row illustrates the collapse of the jet and the development of the second and third concentric ripples.
The photographs were taken by the light furnished by the discharge of 12 quart Leyden jars across a spark gap of 1 1/8 inch, approximate exposure of each photograph '0000017 to '0000012 sec.
They are chronometrically timed to a period of '005 sec., each photograph has its "time expired" since commencement marked on the mount.
