- Description:
- This type of wave, which has only recently been investigated, is caused by the interaction of the stream with its bed in cases where the depth is sufficiently small and the velocity sufficiently great. They are, therefore, most common in mountainous districts and are best seen where artificial pavement, or a rock outcropping in a regular manner, give the waves a sufficient lateral development to form a long transverse ridge of water. Taken at Merligen, Switzerland.
