- Description:
- In this level the spirit-chamber (F) is made on one close-grained homogeneous piece by squeezing from a flat German-silver sheet. Incidentally this white metal enhances the contrast between the colour of the bubble and that of the surrounding spirit. The connection between this chamber and the glass (B) is made of such a form that any expansion of the metal is compensated, and the joint is not opened. Leakage is further prevented by the elastic ring (D), which is compressed into the angular space of the joint. The level is assembled by forcing the chamber (F) into the outer jacket (E) until it comes in contact with the glass at (A). The rim of the jacket at (C) guards the glass from injury; and this outer jacket being separate from the spirit-chamber, may be strained or bent even considerably without causing the level to leak.
